Common Reasons Refund Requests Are Rejected

This article outlines the most common reasons refund requests are rejected — and how to avoid these issues in the future.

🧾 1. Return Request Submitted After the Valid Period

Every vendor on Made In Nigeria offers a specific return window (usually 7–14 days after delivery).
If you try to return or request a refund after this period has expired, the vendor may reject your request.

Tip: Always check the product’s return policy before purchasing, and submit return requests as soon as possible after discovering a problem.

📦 2. Product Used, Damaged, or Not in Original Condition

Refunds are only approved for items returned in their original condition — unused, undamaged, and with all packaging and accessories intact.
Your request may be rejected if:

  • The item shows signs of use, wear, or modification.

  • The product is missing original packaging, manuals, or tags.

  • The product was returned with stains, scratches, or broken parts caused after delivery.

Tip: Keep items in their original state until you’re sure you want to keep them.

🧴 3. Product Belongs to a Non-Returnable Category

Certain items are not eligible for return or refund due to hygiene, safety, or digital nature. These include:

  • Beauty and personal care products (e.g., cosmetics, perfumes).

  • Undergarments, swimwear, or intimate wear.

  • Perishable goods (food, beverages, agricultural products).

  • Digital downloads or software.

  • Customized or personalized items.

If your order includes such products, your refund request will likely be declined.

🧾 4. Missing or Incomplete Evidence

When submitting a return or refund request, you’re expected to provide clear evidence of the issue — such as photos, videos, or a detailed explanation.

Refunds may be rejected if:

  • The reason for return isn’t clearly explained.

  • No photo or video proof is attached for damaged or incorrect products.

  • The issue reported doesn’t match the product received.

Tip: Always attach clear photos of the product’s condition and packaging when filing a complaint.

💳 5. Refund Requested for an Order That Was Successfully Delivered

Refunds cannot be approved for orders that:

  • Were delivered successfully and matched the order details.

  • Were rejected upon delivery without valid reason.

  • Have been accepted and confirmed by the buyer on the platform.

Once an order is marked as “Delivered” and “Accepted” by the buyer, refunds are no longer applicable unless the product is defective.

🧮 6. Vendor or Platform Finds the Claim Invalid

If, after inspection, the vendor or the Made In Nigeria Dispute Team determines that:

  • The product returned does not match the one originally sold, or

  • The issue was caused by misuse or mishandling after delivery,

…the refund claim will be declined.

Example: Returning a different product or an empty package instead of the original item will result in permanent account penalties.

📉 7. Payment Was Never Completed

Refunds can only be issued for successful transactions.
If your payment failed or was reversed by your bank, the issue is outside the refund system. You’ll need to contact your bank or payment provider for assistance instead.

💬 8. How to Avoid Refund Rejection

✅ Always review the product’s return policy before buying.
✅ Submit your return or refund request within the allowed window.
✅ Include clear and complete evidence (photos, receipts, explanation).
✅ Keep all packaging and invoices until you’re satisfied with your order.
✅ Communicate politely and promptly with the vendor if an issue arises.

📞 9. What to Do If You Believe a Refund Was Unfairly Rejected

If you believe your refund request was declined unfairly:

  • Go to My Account → Orders → Returns and click “Dispute Decision.”

  • Provide additional evidence or clarification.

  • The Made In Nigeria Dispute Team will review the case within 5–7 business days and provide a final decision.
